Purpose
The club was founded in 1994 with the aim of stimulating the interest of members in gardening, of providing an opportunity to exchange information and ideas on gardening and to arrange visits to interesting gardens both locally and in other parts of the country.
Events
A yearly programme of winter and spring talks is arranged on a wide range of horticultural and gardening subjects. A social evening is held in December followed by a buffet supper.
In the summer months the club usually arranges two evening visits to interesting gardens in the village or within easy travelling distance. Members meet in the Village Car Park to share lifts.
A Plant Sale and Coffee Morning is held in May where plants grown and/or donated by members are available to buy.
Membership
Membership of the club is open to anyone resident in East Bridgford and neighbouring villages. Each year an Annual General Meeting is held where members may vote to elect members of the committee. The Committee comprises Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and up to eight other members..
Meetings
The Club meets monthly from September to April in the WI Hut, normally on the fourth Tuesday of the month, except for the Christmas Social which is usually on the first or second Friday of December. Expert speakers give talks and answer questions on a variety of subjects ranging from garden design and plant cultivation to the history of gardens.
The current annual membership fee of £10 covers entry to these talks whilst guests and non-members are welcome to attend on payment of £3. This includes refreshments of tea/coffee and biscuits which are served after the talk followed by a Raffle.
As well as information given out at meetings, members are kept informed of Club activities by the distribution of a twice yearly newsletter.
Forthcoming events are also published in the Village Magazine.
