The Energy Saving Trust
- July 2009
|
Funded by government, the Energy Saving Trust
www.energysavingtrust.org.uk provides free, impartial, expert advice on saving energy. We have information available to all on a wide range of energy saving matters from grants for loft and cavity wall insulation to renewable technology.
Over 40% of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions, the main greenhouse gas which causes climate change, actually come from the energy we use every day - at home and when we travel. Things like insufficient insulation, leaving lights on unnecessarily or overfilling the kettle all waste energy and result in needless carbon dioxide emissions.
The Energy Saving Trust also offer FREE home energy reports to every household, detailing how energy efficient your home is and steps you could take to improve on this. This report can be obtained by filling in a
home energy check questionnaire either online or by calling our energy saving helpline.
To speak to an Energy Saving Trust advisor for guidance on completing the home energy check, or for more information on saving energy at home call us free on

Rushcliffe Barn Owl Project
Publication
- September 2008
|
A project to save Barn Owls in Rushcliffe has been so successful that
their numbers are now probably as high as they have ever been.
The
conversion and demolition of old barns, where they once nested was
suspected to be behind the decline and the project which began in a
small way in the late 1990's, has now fixed over 150 nest boxes in
the borough and in 2007 more than 150 young owls fledged from these.
Howard Broughton has written an entertaining account of the triumphs
and occasional tragedies of that year and the book is for sale to
help raise funds to keep the project running.
More boxes need to be
constructed and fixed, the old ones need to be maintained and
replaced and they all need visiting at least twice each year to
document the success rate and measure and ring the fledglings.
The
book is in diary form; it is an excellent read with great photos and
costs just £5 plus £1 postage from Howard at 5 Park Road, Plumtree
Park, Keyworth, Nottingham NG12 5LX.
